FASET, the trade body representing the international safety net rigging and temporary safety systems industry, has revealed the winners of its prestigious Annual Awards. The winners of the four categories for 2016 were announced at a special ceremony following the association’s Annual General Meeting at the Hellidon Lakes Hotel in Daventry.
Sponsored by Smart Scaffolder, FASET Member of the Year was won by Grimsby-based PMC Safety Netting Limited. Highly commended were Highersafe Ltd and SMD Ltd.
The positions were reversed in the Project of the Year category – sponsored by Tecnologia Deportiva SA – with Scunthorpe-based Highersafe taking top spot, and PMC receiving a highly commended.
Highersafe won outright for its innovative approach to the installation of safety netting and edge protection during the main stand extension at Liverpool Football Club, and PMC received praise for its work at the National College for High Speed Rail in Doncaster.
The third category, CSCS-sponsored Employee of the Year, was won by Reece Doig who joined FASET member company DTE Scaffolding & Safety Netting in October 2015.
Comments DTE’s managing director, Ray Townsend: “Although Reece has only been with us a year, his commitment to learning and acquiring skills and knowledge has been exceptional. He has completed a wide range of courses and his attitude to safety is exemplary.”
The final award, Health and Safety Initiative of the Year, was also won by PMC Safety Netting Limited, this time for its ground breaking worker engagement programme. Highly commended was Highersafe and the category was sponsored by Nationwide Platforms.
The judges for 2016 were Ray Cooke, head of the Health and Safety Executive’s Construction Sector Safety Unit; James Talman, chief executive of the National Federation of Roofing Contractors; Mark Kelly, SHEQ director at Nationwide Platforms; and Tony Seddon, FASET’s company secretary.
In each case the independent panel of judges was looking for dedication, innovation and, above all, and absolute commitment to competency and height safety.
Says Tony Seddon: “As a trade association we aim to advance safety through standards, guidance and training. These awards recognise and reward those individuals and companies who have gone that extra mile in achieving these objectives over the last 12 months.”
FASET is a founder member of the Access Industry Forum (AIF), and, together with other AIF member organisations, is actively campaigning for a more robust and comprehensive method of formally recording falls from height and their root cause.
