The AIF enjoys a close working relationship with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). It contributed to the development of the original Work at Height Regulations in 2005 and subsequently assisted the HSE with the redrafting and simplifying of its accompanying guidance: Working at Height: A Brief Guide (INDG 401) and Using Ladders and Stepladders Safely (INDG 455).

The AIF also collaborated with the HSE in the production of the Work at Height Access Equipment Information Toolkit (WAIT).

Each AIF member organisation cooperates closely with the HSE in its own right, and a representative of the HSE sits on the AIF Management Committee. The HAE also regularly provides speakers for AIF conferences and seminars.
