Earlier in the day, the FASET AGM featured updates on the work of the trade body in 2019 and a wide range of external speakers on work at height, CITB grant availability, mental health and a very popular demonstration of the innovative, brand new air bag net recovery system by new event sponsors, Brilliant Ideas.

And there was a new post-lunch format, with smaller ‘break-out sessions’ attending seminars, workshops, presentations and open dialogue discussion groups covering all manner of topics, such as asbestos awareness, the role of FASET, hybrid power and pre-crush sensor technologies in MEWPs.

Furthermore, event sponsors Leon de Oro, Trad Safety Systems, Visor Nets, Huck Nets, CSCS, Spanset, Genie (A Terex Brand) and Nationwide Platforms had trade displays at the AGM to showcase their wares to event delegates, with Genie and Nationwide Platforms also having a range of MEWPs on display outside the front of the hotel, available for demonstration.

FASET MD Tony Seddon said: “The change to a new venue and slight shift in AGM format was received extremely well by the membership and other event delegates. It’s an important event to highlight the hard work of all the FASET committees and staff over the year – and to show what’s been achieved in the past 12 months, which is a lot in 2019.

“We have launched many new guidance notes – freely available to the construction and work at height sector – had a presence at various key trade events, like the AIF Work At Height Conference and H&S Events, been part of the launch of the APPG’s ‘Staying Alive’ Report, created a new marketing film viewed by more than 6,000 people, have re-branded our membership logos and far more besides.

“The work of FASET members – sub-contracting and training – is often extremely challenging, complex and is far from simple. And we shouldn’t forget – what they do every day saves lives. And that fact cannot be understated.

“The AGM & Awards are a great celebration of the hard work of member companies and individuals and we would like to wish our congratulations to those nominated for an award and of course those highly commended and winners. All involved in FASET should be very proud of what they achieve – regardless of whether they entered or won an award, because they ensure that construction site workers in the UK go home safely to their families, every day.”

In addition to the Awards, FASET were also proud to have a new charity target for 2019 – the No Falls Foundation, the charitable organisation dedicated to preventing falls from height and helping people affected by the consequences of a fall. Their Chairman, Peter Bennett OBE gave a speech at the AGM on the work of the foundation, and later in the evening gratefully accepted more than £1,000 raised by FASET members.

The FASET Awards evening rounded off nicely with entertainment in the form of award winning, BGT comedian, Nick Page.
